In a significant breakthrough, two key members of a gang involved in terrorizing the residents of Bhekrai Nagar, Pune, were apprehended by the Anti-Extortion Squad at Pune Airport. The accused, identified as Rahul Balasaheb Tupe (34) and Sagar Ramesh Dhumal (43), had fled to Nepal after vandalizing multiple vehicles in the area, causing widespread panic.

The arrests come after a complaint was lodged by Ajay Ashok Jagdale, a resident of Bhekrai Nagar, who had been threatened over a property dispute. Jagdale had sold land to Milind Tupe, an associate of Rahul Tupe, several years ago. Despite Milind agreeing to pay, Rahul, who was incarcerated at the time in Kolhapur Jail, issued death threats, warning Jagdale against demanding the payment.

Tensions escalated, and on the night of August 24, Rahul Tupe, along with his brother Sachin Tupe and a group of 10 to 15 men, attacked Jagdale’s house. They vandalized two cars parked outside, a Hyundai Creta and an Alto, in a brazen display of intimidation. This act of violence instilled fear among local residents, prompting the police to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) to curb the gang’s activities.

Following the incident, both Rahul Tupe and Sagar Dhumal went into hiding. However, the Anti-Extortion Squad, led by Police Inspector Vijay Kumbhar, received intelligence that the two suspects had fled to Nepal and were planning to return to Pune via Lucknow. Acting on this information, the police deployed a team to Pune Airport, where they successfully apprehended the duo as they arrived.

The successful operation was carried out under the supervision of senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, and other high-ranking officers. Police Inspector Vijay Kumbhar, along with his team, played a crucial role in tracking and arresting the suspects, bringing an end to their reign of terror in Bhekrai Nagar.
